Annual event opens the four day long Gold Cup Race of Champions event
CHICO, CA (9-4-07) - The winged warriors of the Hoosier Racing
Tires Civil War Race Series will once again open the four day long Gold
Cup Race of Champions with a special Wednesday night event this week,
the annual Pacific Sprint Cup Invitational. This event is the crown
jewel of the Civil War Series and will showcase the top 32 drivers in
the current series point standings.
The traveling Civil War Series feature winged 360 cubic inch powered
sprint cars. This series is designed to allow competitors to compete in
their weekly track championships as well as a traveling series such as
the Civil War. Under the title sponsorship of Hoosier Racing Tires, the
series travels to five different race tracks throughout California to
compete in a total of 15 annual events.
This Wednesday night, the top 32-drivers in the current Civil War
point standings will be on hand at John Padjen’s Silver Dollar Speedway
to compete in the biggest event of the series tour, an event that pays
$3,000 to the winner. The winged sprint cars will share the spotlight
with the wingless sprint cars of the Hunt Magnetos Championship series
which competes at both Placerville and Silver Dollar Speedways. This
event is also an invitational race for the wingless competitors as the
top 22 drivers compete in the event that ultimately determines the 2007
series championship.
As Forsberg leads the roster into Wednesday’s event he will be joined
by Colby Wiesz of Colfax who sits 29-points behind the leader. The
driver of the FnF Racing #x1, Wiesz has already won a Civil War race at
Silver Dollar Speedway this season and is familiar with the track as he
competes there weekly in his family owned sprint car during the Friday
night campaign.
Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park maintains the third position in the
standings. Rollag, driving for car owner Rick Williams is also a veteran
driver of the Silver Dollar high banks and trails the leader by
48-points. Last year it was William’s car that won the Pacific Sprint
Cup with Joey Magaruh behind the wheel.
Sitting tied for the fourth position is Placerville’s Andy Gregg and
former series champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove. Gregg has already
claimed a Civil War win this year and will look to continue his season
of success this Wednesday night. DeCaires will enter the event on the
momentum of his recent second career championship at Placerville
Speedway last week. Both drivers trail the lead position by 74-points.
Earlier in the season Mark Hall of Grass Valley won a Civil War race
at Silver Dollar Speedway and will enter Wednesday’s event in the sixth
position in the standings. Sitting behind Hall will be a pair of
California’s youngest and most recognized talents, Kyle Larson of Elk
Grove and Mason Moore of Princeton.
Lifelong racing friends, both Larson and Moore will take their race
for the 2007 Rookie of the Year award to the Pacific Sprint Cup. Both
young drivers have been making headlines in the series all year long,
their most memorable night of action was a Civil War event at
Placerville Speedway when they raced first and second and Larson became
the youngest driver to even win a feature event at Placerville, at the
age of 15 years old.
Wednesday’s event is general admission only and all seating is $20
for adults, $12 for juniors and $4 for children. Those under 6 will be
admitted for free. The grandstands are set to open at 5 p.m. with
qualifying starting at 6:30 followed by heat racing and feature events
for both divisions. For additional information log on to
